Located in Chicago Chinatown, mayflower is a restaurant that serves solid dim sum. I went around lunch time on a Sunday, and it was busy. The establishment was filled with locals, and it was loud as people were conversing over the food. There are too many dishes to go over, but here are 3 things that were good during this visit:
1. Loh Mai Fan, sticky rice: it’s fried style (rather than steamed) and has peanuts.
2. Lo Bak Go, turnip cake: crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside.
3. Wu Gok, Crispy taro puff: crispy outside filled with taro and meat on the inside.
It isn’t the fanciest, but it’s relatively inexpensive for going out for dim sum. If you’re in Chinatown, check this place out if you’re looking for a good place for dim sum.
Hearty portions. Delicious food. Very reasonable prices. The bowl of chicken congee was three times the size I was expecting.
Traditional Cantonese cuisine. If you are a tourist, you might have difficulty ordering unless you use the menu and show them what you want. Today I got their beef brisket over rice. The presentation is not the best but the food is good. Wish they added more vegetables or something so it looks a bit nicer. Another heads up is all of their lunch special is now $7.80. As a general rule of thumb, tip in cash too!
